What is Value?

What is value? We all work, earn money, and exchange our money for a thing, because the value of that thing is of equal value to the money we earned with our time and energy. I consider my time to be my most valuable resource - a resource that I spend without ever knowing how much of it I have left.
I’m in the boat business - the marine industry - offing boat rentals, boat detailing, marine service, storage, sales, and dock & hoist install. I own Northern Lakes Boat Co, a local business that offers these services to boat owners, lake lovers and waterfront property owners with personalized customer service and excellent communication. Our daily goal is to create value to our customers by saving them the time and hassle it takes to enjoy our beautiful lakes during Michigan’s short but incredible summers. We can all probably agree that our free time should be spent, to the greatest extent possible, enjoying experiences with our family and friends, not doing those undesirable chores that it inevitably takes to take advantage of those rare opportunities.
So how do I know that Northern Lakes Boat Co provides sufficient value to our customers? When our clients pay for our services, they smile and thank us. They often leave glowing reviews and offer referrals. And most of them come back year over year. Another strong indication is the steady growth we’ve seen over the 4 years we’ve been in business.
An advantage of ours is that we are not playing the volume game, unlike so many of our competitors. We are in the long game, building enduring relationships and making every effort to provide undeniable value with every interaction. This cultural mindset has proven successful for both our business and our cherished and loyal patrons.
Consider the value of a product or service is as you write your next check or swipe your card. And what does value really mean to you?
